Girls U-16 and U-18 Regional Tournament

Played on 17th January at the Regional Hockey Centre, King George Playing Fields, Swansea

The WHU U16 and U18 Regional Tournament was held at Swansea University on Saturday 17 January 2009 South Wales East were the winners of both age groups, with South Wales West runners-up and North Wales in third place.

In the U16 Tournament, South Wales East beat South Wales West by 4 goals to 1 Hannah Vowles scored a hat trick to make the half-time score 3 - 0, Hannah Griffiths scored from a penalty corner for South Wales West before Ellis Davies scored the final goal for South Wales East.

South Wales West beat North Wales by 3 goals to 1 Gemma Williams scored for North Wales within the first five minutes but South Wales West were not deterred by this. Ceri Jenkins equalised in the 11th minute and Naomi James scored in the 14th minute, Imogen Davies sealed victory in the second half with goal number three for South Wales West

In the final U16 match South Wales East beat North Wales by 8 goals to Nil Goals from Rebekah Hadley, Ellie Laity, Jo Westwood, Hannah Vowles (2) , Sioned Price (2) and Phoebe Richards.

1st: South Wales East

2nd: South Wales West

3rd: North Wales

In the U18 Tournament, South Wales East beat South Wales West by 3 goals to 1 Sophie Clayton and Natasha Jones scored for South Wales East late in the first half, Sophie scored her second goal before Stacey John pulled one back for South Wales West.

South Wales East beat North Wales by 2 goals to 1 Becky Watkins opened the scoring for South Wales East in the 35th second of the match, Jessica Roberts equalised for North Wales just before half time with Natasha Jones scoring the winner for South Wales East in the 48th minute.

South Wales West beat North Wales by 2 goals to nil In the final match of the afternoon, Stacey John scored a goal in each half for South Wales West.

1st: South Wales East

2nd: South Wales West

3rd: North Wales
