Development

Hockey Wales Development Centres provide children aged 9-16 (depending on area demand) with opportunities to play outside of their normal school/club environment. The coaches break down fundamental parts of the game to allow the players to develop their skills and hone their game play in a comfortable, yet testing, environment.

Development Centres are also a great entry route into hockey.  Beginners are integrated with experienced players in a safe learning environment with the element of fun being the common denominator.

In the 2017/18 season three Hockey Wales Development Centres ran nationwide. To give you an idea around how these centres went, we’ve sourced some quotes from participants and their parents:

“We enjoyed the fun activities and the games at the end. The supervisors, Tom, Richard and Ellie, were very kind, polite and fun to be around and very welcoming. I didn’t enjoy the 3D lessons because I couldn’t do it as well as other lessons but I learned a lot this season and am looking forward to next season” (Colwyn Bay, 2018).

“My son Matthew has attended most of these sessions and has really enjoyed them. He tells me that they are extremely well organised and the coaches are really friendly. I think it is important if Welsh hockey is to compete with other regions in the UK that we give youngsters in North Wales access to quality hockey training. This is always going to be difficult in more rural areas like North Wales but your stats prove that you are attracting children from a wide catchment.” (Colwyn Bay, 2018).

“Alexis had a great time and is looking forward to next week. It’s fantastic that these sessions have been put on. Thanks to all of you.” (Brecon,2018)
