Over 100 children took part in our Hockey Camps that ran throughout Wales last week. Children had a great time learning some new skills, making some new friends and scoring some fantastic goals.
Camps were held in Brecon, Llandrindod, Welshpool, Risca, Bridgend and Bangor and were all supported by promising coaches and Hockey Wales Young Ambassadors.
The purpose of the camps were to provide hockey playing opportunities during February half term for children aged 7 – 13. The camps were open to all which attracted new beginners to Hockey. They were also a good opportunity to provide opportunities for new players to the game in a relaxed and fun environment!
‘my daughter had an such amazing time at the hockey camp yesterday, can you tell us where our local club is to join’ commented one parent whose child attended a camp at Risca Leisure Centre
Tom Little from Hockey Wales guided two placement students to learn how to promote camps with him. He commented:
‘I had two girls on placement with me who selected venues, organised and promoted the camps which gave the girls from Ysgol Friars invaluable experience in running holiday activities. Due to the success of the days, with 34 children enjoying the camps, we are now looking into booking dates during the Easter holidays and spreading them across multiple North Wales sites.
All in all, a great way to evidence the impact of Work Placement for these girls and show that local knowledge and research is crucial when doing outreach work such as this’.
We look forward to welcoming you all back to our next camps.
