After three years at the helm, Hockey Wales will bid a fond farewell and good luck to David Phenis next April, as he steps down from his role as CEO.
Over the last three years, David has become a well-respected figure amongst the hockey family, having helped steer the organisation through a great deal of change under his strong leadership. From the extraordinary success seen by our national teams on the international stage to the notable shift across grassroots hockey, David has dedicated himself passionately to our wonderful sport.
David began his journey with Hockey Wales on an interim basis but after falling in love with the sport, its values and wider hockey family, he soon moved into the role full-time and on a permanent basis.
Life-long hockey player and Hockey Wales Chair, Lisa Pinney expressed her appreciation to David for his unwavering dedication and outstanding work to date:
I would like to congratulate Dave on the first-class job he has done at Hockey Wales, since joining the organisation in 2015. Since taking up his role as CEO, Dave and his leadership team have steered the organisation to some major successes both on and off the field.
Given that the original intention was for Dave to fill the role on a temporary basis and for a limited time, Welsh Hockey has been lucky to have his leadership and experience for so long and we have all benefited from his experience and enthusiasm which has provided the impetus for helping the organisation grow and develop as it has.
I’d like to take the opportunity to give Dave my sincerest best wishes for his future endeavours and to let him know he will be sorely missed by all his colleagues, both within and outside of the Board
David has had a huge impact on Hockey Wales in so many areas and has been instrumental in transforming our organisation. His own values have woven their way through our network, shaping the high performing environment we see today. He will be sorely missed by many across Hockey Wales.
