On Sunday 20th November, Cwmtawe Ladies Hockey Club held a charity event in aid of the Swansea Valley Miners' Appeal Fund. The day kicked off with the monthly South West Wales Junior Development Tournament for u13s and u15s, with Crymych, Llanybydder, Fishguard and Cwmtawe fielding teams. Throughout the tournament, willing volunteers from Cwmtawe club kept spectators and players fed and watered with a hot dog stand, soup, sandwiches and cakes – all provisions were donated by Cwmtawe members, so all proceeds went straight into the charity's collection.  The Hockey Wales "Smurf Turf" was also available for kids (big and small!) to have a bit of inflatable fun between matches, and the speed gun provided that extra bit of competition, with players from all clubs trying to beat each other's scores!

In the afternoon, members of Teigrod Tywi, Neath Men and Cwmtawe Ladies took to the field for some friendly 7 a-side games, with all participants making a donation to the collection buckets with a total of £477.20 being raised on the day, which will go directly to the Swansea Valley Miners' Appeal Fund.

Cwmtawe Ladies Hockey Club would like to thank the following for their support for making the day such a success:

Angela Miles (Hockey Development Officer for Pembrokeshire County Council) for organising the junior tournament

Fishguard and Goodwick, Crymych, Llanybydder, Teigrod Tywi and Neath Men's Hockey Clubs for their participation and donations

Bridgend Hockey Club for their generous letter of support and donation towards the charity

School Camp Ltd for providing the equipment for the hot dog stand

Celtic Community Leisure for donating the pitch for the day

Hockey Wales for the Smurf Turf and speed gun

Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council for their support to hold the event

New Age Photography, Glamorgan Cricket, The Mole Inn (Cwmtwrch) and the many Cwmtawe members and parents who donated prizes for the raffle

All of the members, friends and family of Cwmtawe Ladies Hockey Club who volunteered on the day.

Many thanks to one and all for contributing to this very worthy cause.
