Congratulations to Cardiff and the Vale, winners of the Hockey Wales South Wales County Schoolgirls U18 tournament, held at Swansea on Sunday 4th December. Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff and the Vale, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Glamorgan Valleys and Pembrokeshire took part in a round robin tournament.

Matches were 25 minutes one way, the match between Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire resulted in a 0 – 0 draw, but goals were scored in all other matches and if the goal-keepers hadn’t played so well, we would have seen a lot more goals!

Cardiff and the Vale took the title having won all five of their matches. Afan Nedd Tawe were runners up, winning four matches and losing 2 – 1 to the tournament winners. Pembrokeshire finished third having won two matches and drawing one, they were one point ahead of Glamorgan Valleys who won two games.

Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion played well against all the Counties and we knew the game between them would be exciting – we weren't disappointed, with end to end hockey and Carmarthenshire scoring the only goal of the game.

Medals and Certificates were presented to the winners and runners up by Claire Bryant (Hockey Wales Pathway Officer). Thank you Claire.

Thanks to all coaches, teachers, family and friends for preparing the teams for the tournament and for their support on the day. Thanks to the umpires, who all had very busy days, congratulations to Danielle Harrison and Jennie Ellis who attained their Level 1 umpiring qualification and to their assessors, Carolyn Llewellyn and John Taylor. Thanks to the Regional Selectors, their job was not an easy one with so much talent on display. Thank you to the Swansea LHC Café Crew who once again kept us fed and watered throughout the day, and to Jane Price for another well organised competition.
