Three University of Glamorgan students were involved in the Welsh Universities Men’s Hockey team which won and retained the BUCS Home Nations competition in Nottingham between16-19 April 2012.

Eggstravaganza Newtown and Tywyn a great success!!

56 young hockey players took to the pitch at 2 venues in North Wales during the Easter holidays. Hockey Wales armed with their inflatable pitch ran 2 fun Eggstravaganza days one in Newtown and one in Tywyn.

Carmarthenshire held an "Olympic" Themed Festival at the Indoor Training Barn at Parc Y Scarlets whereby 10 Carmarthenshire Secondary schools entered with 110 girls taking part.

As the nation celebrates 100 days to go to London 2012, Sport Wales has today published a strategy for community sport in Wales – designed to challenge the sports sector to up the ante in increasing the number of people across the nation playing sport.

Welshpool High School take top honours

Welshpool High School has taken top honours in an Olympic inspired sports tournament. The Powys Secondary Schools under 14, 16 and 18 hockey tournaments were held recently, with Welshpool picking up most points across the age groups.

Sport Wales announces a further investment into 'Community Chest'

Sport Wales will be putting an additional £500k investment into community chest during 2012 – 2013 with the key focus of the investment being to help grow grass roots community sports across Wales.

The additional investment will be targeted at opportunities which:

a) Better prepare clubs to cater for interest generated via 2012 - Olympic & Paralympic legacy

b) Tackle inequality - bme (black and minority ethnic groups), disability (inclusion), women and girls, social inclusion.

Clubs will be able to put a 2nd Community Chest application forward during 2012-2013 if this additional bid targets one or some of the above key agendas.

Olympic hockey star comes home to inspire youngsters

Merthyr Tydfil born Olympic hockey star, Sarah Thomas, took a rare break from her London 2012 preparations to come back to her hometown today to find out more about Hockey Wales' ambitious plans to develop the next generation of Olympians and grassroots hockey enthusiasts.

More Hockey test event tickets on sale tomorrow

More tickets to the Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament, a London 2012 test event, will go on sale tomorrow, 3 April, at 10.00am. Tickets will be available for both sessions on the final day of Hockey on Sunday 6 May, priced from £5 – £15, giving spectators the unique opportunity to watch international sport in the Olympic Park just weeks ahead of the Games.

Visa (debit, credit, prepaid) is the only card accepted for online ticket sales for these 'London Prepares' series events.
