Be an International for the day!

Hockey Wales and Wrexham Glyndwr Hockey club are teaming up to provide young players of North Wales the opportunity to train like an international player for the Day. Women’s head coach Amanda Partington along with some of the Welsh Women’s squad will be in attendance at Glyndwr University on 1st September to answer questions on what it is like to play for Wales and what players need to do to be in with a chance of being a Welsh Player.

New rules seminar

WHUA are inviting all WHUA members to the pre-season Umpires meeting to discuss the New Rules at 10.00 a.m. on Sunday 9th September at the National Hockey Centre during the Men's World League tournament weekend. This will be followed at 11.00 a.m. by Workshops for umpires at all levels who would like to improve their umpiring and a General Introduction to Officiating. This would mean classroom sessions and pitch side work during the World League games. These sessions would be free of charge. For full details please see the pdf below.

FIH World League Round 1

International Hockey comes to Cardiff when Hockey Wales hosts the new World League. Austria, Ireland, Sweden & Wales will all be competing for the two places on offer for Round 2. Vets in World Cup action!

Welsh Vets Men at 40s, 45s, 50s, 60s and 65s and Women at 40s and 50s will all be competing in their respective World Cups over the next few days. The Women's two squads and the three younger Men's squads (Masters) will all be competing in Canterbury whilst the Men's 60s & 65s (Grand Masters) will be playing in Oxford.

GB Men finish 4th

GB Men bounced back from their semifinal defeat to Holland to run Australia close before going down 1-3 to their Commonwealth rivals.

Many congratulations to GB Women who put the heartache of their semi final defeat behind them to beat New Zealand 3-1 in a convincing display with Sarah Thomas scoring the final goal.

Olympic Fun at Abergavenny!

Abergavenny HC plans an afternoon of Olympic Fun at Llanfoist Village Hall on Sunday 5th August. The event will start at 3pm with coverage on a big screen of the first match where FIH 2nd ranked team in the World, Germany, take on the 3rd ranked team the Netherlands. There will then be an interval with a bar provided and some fun based activities for children and adults. Activities to include face painting, nail art, a hockey challenge for all ages, cakes and a raffle. Following this, Great Britain’s men currently ranked fourth in the world will play Australia who are the top ranked team in the world. The event will be open to all everyone in the community and will be a family based event. We hope you can make it. Please bring your own food for the afternoon and come and enjoy the family atmosphere.
