GB Men build winning momentum with Spanish victory

A lightning start and second half grit ensured Great Britain's men's hockey team took the honours at the tri-nations Olympic warm-up tournament in Santander on Monday evening. First half goals from Reading's Jonty Clarke and HGC's Barry Middleton fired GB into an early lead and although Pau Quemada halved the deficit before half time, Great Britain rode out 2-1 victors, winning the tournament in the process following their 3-1 victory over India on Saturday.

Save the Date – World Hockey comes to Cardiff!

Over 7th – 9th September, Hockey Wales will be hosting Round 1 of the new World League (Men). Four Nations will be participating on a round robin basis with the top two progressing to the next round. In ranking order Ireland, Austria, Wales and Sweden will be playing with the Welsh matches deliberately arranged to allow everybody the chance to come and support the squad. As it's the first time that Wales have hosted an FIH event we are pulling out all the stops to make it an experience you will not forget! Ticket prices for both 'on the gate' and pre-order sales will be released over the next few weeks together with further information as to 'what’s on'.

Calling all Ex-Internationals!!

As part of the World Series Round 1 (Men) being hosted in Cardiff from 7th–9th September we would like to invite all ex-senior internationals (Men & Women) to a reception on the 8th September prior to the Wales v Sweden match which is due to push-back at 16:30. Following the conclusion of the reception it is intended to have a parade of internationals on the pitch immediately before the game to help celebrate the first time we have hosted an FIH event.

Whilst we know who our ex-internationals are we do not necessarily know where they are so if you are in contact with fellow ex-internationals please pass this information onto them. To assist with the parade it would be extremely helpful if you could advise as to 1) whether you can attend 2) the period you played for Wales at full international level and 3) the number of full Wales (and GB) caps won. Please send your information to info@hockeywales.org.uk and we will then be in touch with you nearer the event so that we can provide you with further details.
