After four wins on the bounce, the Spartans were hoping to make it five in a row against an always resilient Exeter.

Swansea started the game strongly, dominating possession and creating chances, but it took until the 18th minute to break the deadlock. Kat Gierak with some great work down the right found Carys Gordon in the D. With the shot well saved by the keeper Hope Kent, Jess Lea was ready to pick up the rebound and slot home for her first Swansea City Spartan goal. Exeter responded with a period of sustained pressure and a well taken penalty saw them equalise after 22 minutes with a goal by Ruby Jarman.

Half-Time 1-1.

Swansea came out at the start of the 2nd half rejuvenated and playing with intensity and collectiveness from defence through to attack. A strong and decisive run from Livvy Hoskins saw her smash home from the top of the D to see Swansea retake the lead on 40 minutes. Some excellent individual play from Amy Burton saw her slot the ball into goal and give the Spartans some breathing space with a 3-1 lead on 59 mins.

The home side continued to pile on the pressure which saw Livvy claim her second goal with a well-executed penalty corner taking the score to 4-1 (66). Swansea’s 5th and final goal saw the ball played brilliantly through the team from defence through midfield to attack to see Kat Gierak score from close range (68).

A great 2nd half performance saw the Spartans execute the style of play they have been aiming for and the team can go into break feeling positive with lots to looks forward to after Christmas.
