The U21 men are back in European indoor action this weekend, two years after a 4th place, at the European indoor championships in Slovenia. The squad travel to Paredes, just outside Porto and will face tough competition, including the hosts Portugal. They are among several nations at the event, where their outdoor ranking has little relevance to the challenge they will pose in the indoor game.

Other notable indoor nations such as the Czech Republic and Sweden will also be stern tests for a young welsh squad, whose primary focus for the trip is development, not only in the 6 man version of the game, but also to be exposed to an intense competition environment, that will stand them in good stead as they move into the senior ranks.

Head coach Danny Newcombe said:

“Following a short preparation phase we are really looking forward to the challenge this week. We have an excellent record of using the indoor game as a tool for the development of senior international hockey players. The exacting nature of indoor develops technical accuracy and tactical awareness. We are really excited to see what this young group can do.”
