Following a successful test series against back in April, the squad is now ready for their Euro Hockey Junior Championship II competition out in Alanya, Turkey. The squad will head out for a competition start of 14th July – 20th July.

Wales will open their European campaign with a game against fellow Home Nation Scotland as the opening games of the tournament too. Joining Wales in their Pool are also Austria and Czech Republic.

Following selection, we’ve spoken to Head Coach, Walid Abdo:

I’m really excited about the potential of this squad going into the Euros and I am confident that we can surprise a few people at the tournament.

The U21 programme was resurrected just over a year ago and we’ve been building slowly towards this tournament in Turkey picking up some decent results along the way.

It’s a strong squad with a mixture of players who have been capped at senior level and some up and coming exciting juniors selected from our 18s programme.

It’s been a tough selection process with some good players not making the final 18, but I feel I’ve made the right calls and I’m proud to be leading this group into a tough competition.
