Today saw the final of the three match test series against Poland, with Wales once again winning the game; their eighth win out of nine matches.
The 2-1 victory saw goals from both Sian French and Danielle Jordan score during the second quarter. The goal from Danni followed a superb right wing run by Eloise Laity; her pin point cross was met by the stick of Danni to give Wales a 2-0 half time lead.
During the third quarter Poland pulled a goal back through a converted penalty corner.
With the game ending 2-1, Captain Abi Welsford expressed “Both teams showed a clear improvement over the three matches. Neither team played particularly well during the first game however Poland upped their game as did we” Abi also added “the fact Poland are heading off to play in the World League Semi-Finals in South Africa will no doubt sharpen them up before the EuroHockey in August however after these wins we’re feeling confident”.
Head of Performance, Dan Clements “Really productive weekend and pleased to come away with the results we have. These games have been a great indicator of the progress our women have made”.
Captain Abi Welsford and Leah Wilkinson are both on track to break the current record, held by Anne Ellis; hopefully during the Women’s EuroHockey Championships II in Cardiff this August.
