Senior Women captain Leah Wilkinson is set to become Wales’s most capped player later this month and S4C cameras will be there to capture the occasion.
Wilkinson will surpass Paul Edwards’ record of 157 appearances, when the women’s national team face France in a three-test international series starting May 31st.
S4C will be live streaming all three matches from the National Hockey Centre at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens, as Wales prepare for the European Hockey Championships later this summer.
The first test will be played on Friday 31 May, with pushback at 6pm, while the second gets underway at 5pm the following day, Saturday 1 June. The concluding test takes place at 11am on Sunday 2 June.
Coverage of all three matches will be streamed live on the S4C website, s4c.cymru, the S4C Chwaraeon Facebook page (with Welsh language commentary), and the S4C Youtube page (with English language commentary). Whisper Films will produce the coverage on behalf of S4C.
Leah Wilkinson, Wales captain, said:
I am absolutely delighted that S4C are live streaming our games vs France. This is certainly a step in the right direction towards pushing Welsh hockey forward in the media. I really hope that the live stream will help to create both growing attention for our brilliant sport whilst also looking to increase participation by inspiring others to pick up a stick. I would like to thank S4C and Hockey Wales for their collaboration in making this happen.
I am thrilled to become the highest capped hockey player in Welsh hockey history against France. I will be forever grateful for all the brilliant memories I have made playing for Wales, good and bad! I have played alongside amazing women and been fortunate to meet so many people along the way and thank everyone for their help and support. I also want to thank for family and friends for their invaluable and uncompromising support throughout the last 15 years.
