Tomorrow (Friday 15th February) Whitchurch Saints will take on Bulgarian side FHC Akademik Plus Sofia in their first match of the 2019 EuroHockey Indoor Club Challenge, held in the Northern French city, Douai.
This year marks the second appearance in this competition for the Saints. An advantage Coach Nick Fackrell is hoping to capitalise on:
“Last season’s tournament in Slovenia provided us with a useful experience of both competitive indoor hockey and also European competition, which we hope will have helped with this year’s preparations.”
After displaying a strong performance during this year’s Indoor Finals held in Merthyr, selecting the final squad made for some fierce competition, with a greater number of players coming forward for selection.
“A larger number of players have competed for a place in our team this year and as a result have some more depth in the squad. It’s been great that the players who represented our club at the last tournament have been able to share their experiences with the new players that have joined for this year.”
Fackrell shared with us his confidence in the final squad, crediting frequent training and the standard of competition the Saints faced at the Indoors:
Saints Captain, Rhi Evans told us the team are excited to compete this year and plan on putting in nothing short of a performance to be proud of, bringing home those results.
