Hockey Wales are pleased to announce that Gwyn Williams has been appointed as the Head Coach for the Girls U18 National Age Group Programme as they head into a key period for group.
A passionate Welshman, Williams will bring a wealth of experience to the role having been a member of the Hockey Wales performance team for over 4 years. Over this time he has been a vital member of the team mainly working with the U18 boys programme but also gaining experience with the senior development sides in various competitions. An experienced coach, Williams has recently gone through the Advanced Coach Programme with Great Britain Hockey whilst also working as Director of Hockey at Cheltenham College.
Speaking on his appointment Williams stated:
I am very much excited about taking on the Head Coach role, having gained valuable experience from within the various performance programmes within Hockey Wales this was a good move for me and the right time to now test myself at this level of competition. I am very much looking forward to working with the current crop of players and help propel them into the senior ranks of the national side. There is quite a lot happening in the coming months but for me that just represents a number of differing opportunities for these players to excel and showcase their talents.
With the 2018 European Championships and Futures Cup on the horizon it promises to be an exciting period for the girls programme. Looking forward to this Head of Performance Dan Clements added:
I am really pleased to see Gwyn step into the Head Coach position for the NAG Girls programme at a key time for us. Gwyn has been a really important member of the performance team here at Hockey Wales for a number of years and he has brought heaps to the boys programme as a forward thinking coach. I am looking forward to seeing him continue his development as he leads the girls programme going forward
