1 DRAW – 1 WIN – 1 LOSS
Wales’ men’s side returned from Vienna on Sunday reflecting on a positive weekend that saw them take on Austria in a 3 test series as they ramped up their preparation for the European championships in August.
With a draw (3-3), a win (4-3) and a loss (5-3) in the final game the squad were in positive mood and pleased with the learning that had taken place across the weekend.
With Austria sitting 22nd in the world and heading to the European top division in the Netherlands during August, Head Coach Zak Jones knew the weekend would play an integral role in Wales preparation for their own Europeans in Glasgow.
Zak said “The series highlighted the areas of our game that we need to continue to improve upon in Poland prior to heading to the tournament Due to the quality within the squad, we have had to make some really tough selection decisions which demonstrates where we are as a group. However, I am confident that the squad we have selected has the right attributes as well as a good blend of younger and more experienced players to perform well and fly the flag for Wales with pride in Glasgow”.
There was also a significant milestone for captain Luke Hawker over the weekend as the Cardiff & Met forward picked up his 50th cap for Wales.
With 4 days recovery, the squad will then head off to Walcz this weekend where they will face Poland in their final camp before the European championships that kick off on the 6th August in Glasgow.
All Wales games played during the championships will be streamed and available via our Facebook page.
