A NARROW MISS FOR WALES AGAINST UKRAINE!
Wales continued their Hockey Series campaign yesterday, taking on Ukraine in their second match of the series. Both teams started with intent to maintain possession, testing each other’s defence.
Wales were the first to have the ball in the goal however it was deemed to be struck just outside of the circle edge. Shortly after Wales gained a penalty corner in the 15th minute where a deflection was saved by the Ukraine keeper.
The 25th minute saw Ukraine gain a penalty stroke due to a mistimed tackle in which they converted to take a 1-0 lead going into half-time. Adamant to keep their lead, Ukraine made it difficult for Wales to gain possession in their attacking 25 within the third quarter.
Wales were looking for the equaliser up to the very last minute, with Leah Wilkinson executing a great pass into the circle, Phoebe Richards receiving it at the penalty spot with the attempt to squeeze the ball into the back of the net. Only to be denied by the keeper.
