Day Three

Both teams pushing back at the unsociable time of 09:30, in hindsight with the temperatures hitting 32 degrees by midday that possible was a good thing.Wales Men’s over 35’s were playing Ireland and the over 40’s Germany.

The 35s were carrying a few injuries into the game and had to manage themselves throughout, they started well for the first ten minutes but unfortunately conceded a short corner shortly afterwards which the very experienced Irish drag flicker managed to dispatch. The second quarter followed a similar trend with Wales competing well but unfortunately conceded half way through to a far post deflection. Wales battled well for the remainder of the game and stuck to their game well, however they were always going to struggle chasing a 2-0 scoreline and conceded two more goals as the game opened up. It was a great effort from everyone in hot conditions and carrying injuries, now they have two days off before playing their classification match on Saturday.

Wales over 40’s facing a strong Germany team, managed to get a early goal on 4 minutes, Danny Makaruk scoring with a reverse to the far post, Germany solid in there basics but not as mobile as the welsh unit managed to equalise at the beginning of the second quarter, there reprise was short lived and wales superior fitness started to show. Tim Jones with some great individual skill finished on 27 mins to make it 2-1 to wales at halftime.

The 2nd half started as the first finished (with a whistle!), Rowan Edwards bobbled a goal in on 33 minutes. The German players were tiring and the welsh pushed on Tim Jones grabbed a brace on 41 and 50 minutes. Making the score 5-1 going into the last 15 minutes. Although the Germans managed to get 1 goal back the result was never in doubt, a excellent 5-2 victory.

Report by Daniel Makaruk.
