Final EuroHockey preparations go well for Wales!
The weekend saw another positive result from Wales senior men against Division A team Poland. Head Coach Zak Jones explains
“We were able to work on the aspects of our game that we had identified needed work in Austria. I was really pleased with the performances and progress made in these areas throughout the four days. The squad feel that we are now ready to go and are very much looking forward the the challenges that lie ahead at the end of the week in Glasgow”
Wales took two of three games from Poland, seeing goals from Owain Dolan-Grey, Gareth Furlong, James Carson and a first international goal from Rhys Doherty. A 4-1 win during the second game sealed a series win for Wales.
The final game ended 3-1 to Poland after the first half ended with Wales 3-0 down; however even though Zak described the second half as disappointing, he also expressed how ‘outstanding’ it was at the same time.
“Outstanding in the second half but despite creating a number of good chances and earning a number of penalty corners could only find a way through the home sides resolute defence and outstanding GK once. Slightly disappointing result but and outstanding second half performance in a game that saw Wales’s GB play Dan Kyriakides earn his 50th Welsh cap“.
