Great Britain Women’s Elite Development Programme squad announced.

Great Britain Hockey is launching the new GB Elite Development Programme (EDP) and has now named the women’s squad to attend an induction camp later this month.

The GB EDP has been launched as part of a strategic objective during the Tokyo 2020 cycle with the aim of developing medal winning Olympians of the future, with the selected athletes having shown their potential to achieve that during a comprehensive selection process.

A total of 36 players have been chosen for the Women’s GB EDP and, while the programme is not age categorised, it has been designed for athletes aged between 19-23.

Each of the Home Nations are well represented in the squad, with Scotland boasting six players. This includes Millie Brown, Sarah Jamieson and Katie Robertson, who all featured regularly for their country in the Hero Hockey World League Semi-Final and EuroHockey Championships over the summer.

Wales also have six players in the set-up, led by Holcombe’s Beth Bingham and Jo Westwood who were instrumental figures in their country’s EuroHockey Championships II campaign on home soil back in August, as was fellow GB EDP member Danni Jordan.

Several of England’s bronze medal winning squad from this summer’s EuroHockey Junior Championships have also been picked for the Women’s GB EDP, including Holly Munro and Esme Burge who both scored in the dramatic comeback against Germany last month that saw them secure the medal with a 3-2 win.

The GB EDP will also see a revised coaching structure that will see world-class coaches leading the activity as well as spending time engaging and supporting the domestic and university game, with Paul Revington announced as the Head Coach of the Women’s GB EDP.

The women will now attend an induction camp at Lilleshall between 31 October – 2 November and an exciting new training and competition programme will follow shortly after.

Jon Bleby will take charge of the Men’s GB EDP and will announce the squad in early November.
