Hockey Wales Senior Men Announce EuroHockey Indoor Squad

The EuroHockey Indoor Championships begin this Friday (January 17th) with the Welsh Men’s squad in action in Santander, Spain.

Wales will start their campaign against newcomers to the competition Ireland in the opening game of the 3rd division of the Championship. Over the course of the weekend they will also face Scotland, Slovenia and a much-anticipated Spanish team, who are competing in the EuroHockey Championship for the first time in 40 years.

Zak Jones, Head Coach of the squad explained,

"The Senior Men’s squad are looking forward to returning to indoor action in Santander at the weekend.

“All involved are under no illusions as to how challenging the tournament will be, especially given the quality of the opposition we face.”

But, as Jones explains, he has selected a team with a view to the competition being an important aspect of the squad’s overall progression,

“We see our indoor programme as an integral development tool for our outdoor programme and with a real blend of experience and younger players, we will be looking for positive performances as well as some important learning opportunities and outcomes."
