HOCKEY WALES STAFF ON FURLOUGH DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
On Friday 1st May 2020, several Hockey Wales staff members were furloughed to ensure the future protection of the sport in these uncertain times.
The CEO for Hockey Wales Ria Burrage-Male explained,
“Our focus remains firmly on getting our players, coaches, umpires and volunteers back out safely enjoying hockey, but it is important we adhere to Government guidance to ensure that the return is safe and well-timed.
“This has been a very challenging time for our hockey family across Wales and beyond, but the support from everyone involved has been incredible.
“We hope that this furlough period will be short lived, but with the ever-moving situation we all find ourselves in, we will have to be flexible.
“The decision to furlough members of our Hockey Wales team has been very difficult, but it was made to ensure that these key roles and the future of the game are protected. If we look after the game now, it will mean we are ready to get back out there as soon as we are able.
“We kindly ask that, with reduced staff, people bear with us in response to any queries."
Hockey in Wales was initially suspended on the 16th March, with the decision to cancel all domestic hockey activity and the Summer Test series made a month later.
"I want to say a huge thank you to all Hockey Wales staff, clubs, players and volunteers who have been so understanding. We are grateful for the support we have received. “
