Wales’ NAG Boys Head Coach, Lee Ible has officially named his 36-strong squad due to face Ulster next week, in a three-match series. Held in Belfast, this will be the first competitive outing for both squads since taking on Scotland over the Easter weekend. With the u18 European Championships in Cardiff this July, these matches are vital preparation and will give the coaching staff another opportunity to see the players in a pressurised match environment.

Looking ahead to the series, Ible said:

As both players and staff, competition is what we look forward to. Ulster will be tough, they are a strong hockey region and produce lots of players who go on to play at the top international level. This is a great test for us and we will need to be strong physically and mentally

Asked what he was hoping to get from the matches, Ible went on to say:

I’m looking to see which players perform in the heat of competition and can stand up and be counted when the going gets tough. The matches provide us with an opportunity to implement some things we’ve worked on in training since Scotland and shape some of what we will work on in the build up to the Euros. I’m also looking at the U16’s closely, as we look beyond the Euros and towards the Futures Cup and the next two-year cycle. We have some relatively new players in this squad, who will be playing their first matches for Wales, see it will be good to see these guys in competitive action

The squads will play six matches across three days, all played at Ulster University, Jordanstown, Belfast.
