Lauren Roberts made her senior debut for Wales and was presented her 1st Welsh Cap on Monday 5th August.

Lauren played her first senior tournament and gained her first Welsh cap after playing in the EuroHockey Championships II match against Turkey, where the team won 5-1. Leah Wilkinson, Wales Captain, presented Lauren with the cap in a memorable moment for Lauren.

Wales Captain, Leah Wilkinson, presenting Lauren her first Welsh Cap.

After being involved in the Welsh hockey programme for the last year, Lauren was recently chosen to go to the EuroHockey Junior Championship in Turkey with the Wales U21 squad. They gained promotion to Division A and also won a bronze medal. Lauren excelled in the competitive environment and was rightly awarded Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

It is a fantastic achievement for Lauren to play in the senior squad and gain her 1st cap for Wales, less than a month after she represented Wales for the first time ever, with the U21’s.

It was wonderful to see Lauren gain her first senior international cap against Turkey and even better for her that it comes in a senior European tournament. Since Lauren joined the Welsh hockey pathway in 2018 she has made significant gains and impact, despite missing a number of months this last year due to an injury setback. It speaks volumes of her commitment and dedication that she bounced back from this disappointment and worked hard to be fit for the recent European U21 campaign, in which she performed so well it resulted in her winning the goalkeeper of the tournament award. This form helped to earn her the opportunity at this next level and we were all delighted to see her officially kick start her senior international career on Monday.” Kevin Johnson, Head Coach
