Head Coach for the Women’s Indoor Championships, Gwyn Williams has today named the squad travelling to Brussels this weekend.

The indoor competition is an integral step on the senior women’s performance programme; providing opportunity for players to gain essential experience of senior hockey in a competitive and challenging format of the game.

The squad sees a number of young athletes step up to senior hockey; allowing them to gain invaluable experience on the International stage. This will see a squad featuring players with recent senior experience such as Swansea’s Lowri Ratti and Loughborough’s Megan Lewis-Williams; alongside Cari Davies and Lottie Hulme appearing for the seniors for the first time. Jess Roe will captain the team with Megan Lewis-Williams as Vice-Captain.

Looking ahead to the tournament, Williams reflects on the importance of the squad competing at this level

“The indoor programme provides a great opportunity for those players selected to showcase their talents in a major championship. Although we’re not as experienced in this format of the game as other nations we have managed to install some underlying principles that we feel compliment our players and we are keen to get the competition started. This will be a real challenge for the athletes and management involved but one we are excited about and have discussed in length in our preparations, especially being in the same pool as the hosts Belgium, which in itself is always a challenge playing a host nation.”

The tournament will be held on 19-21 January 2018 in Brussels, Belgium; with Wales playing their first match against Scotland on Friday.
