WALES MEN TO TAKE ON POLAND IN 3 MATCH TEST SERIES
Fresh from the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast earlier this year, Wales men’s side travel to Gniezno, Poland this weekend where they take on their Polish counterparts in a three match test series. It is a repeat of last years tests, which saw Wales win the series.
Last year’s test series proved invaluable preparation as the Dragon’s went on to achieve promotion from the EuroHockey Championship II division and into the top tier of European Hockey. Zak Jones and his squad will be looking to repeat the success of last Summer when they head to Croatia later this month for the Hockey Open Series.

With Open Series coming so soon after the Commonwealth Games and with a number of seniors players missing due to injury and unavailability due to exams/work commitments, it has been a challenging period for the squad. However, their absence has presented opportunity to a number of exciting young athletes and has also given us the scope to both broaden and strengthen our group. I am really pleased with the progress we continue to make as well as the attitude, application and intent within the squad. Test series against Poland are always tight and highly competitive and I expect nothing less this time around. I am really looking forward to getting out there and seeing what this new group is capable of

Over the course of the weekend, a number of players will look to achieve their first International Senior Cap as well as some player’s looking to reach some pretty significant milestones! Over the course of the weekend, alongside a number of first caps, three senior players are likely to reach key milestones. With Ben Francis and Rupert Shipperley both likely to receive their 50th caps, whilst goalie David Kettle is in line to earn his 100th cap.
