Wales to take on Scotland

This weekend brings with it the highly anticipated Wales V Scotland, three match test series! The series played at Glasgow National Hockey Centre, provide a great opportunity for the Welsh women, who are preparing themselves for the European Women’s Championships II being held on home soil this August.

Having last played Scotland in June 2015 the squad are eager to battle it out once again. Scotland recently qualified for the World League Semi-Finals; making them a great opposing team to compete against!

Wales Head Coach, Kev Johnson said:

“After our recent rise in the World rankings, we are committed to learning more about how to improve ourselves both individually and collectively and therefore seek to play higher ranked opposition as regularly as we can, so playing Scotland at this time is perfect preparation for us as we head towards our home Europeans this summer. Scotland are to be admired for the way they have developed their programme over recent years and they are busy preparing for both World League Semi-Finals and European A division this summer. Whilst there is no doubt this will be a tough challenge for us, we are learning to meet these challenges head on and relish the opportunities to confidently take our game to whoever we face.”I am delighted to also welcome Emily Rowlands into the squad for this series who is likely to receive her first senior cap over the weekend. Emily has fully deserved her call up to replace the injured Natalie Blyth by producing consistent performances for our Challengers squad in their recent match activity. Her inclusion is testament to the depth we are now developing with more players pushing hard for future senior opportunities.”
