It seems Whitchurch Saints are on a roll; having triumphed at the Welsh Indoors the last two years running; they’re now poised and ready to take on their first Euro Hockey Indoor Club Challenge, hosted by HK Moravske Toplice, Slovenia.

The Saints will compete in Pool B; challenging well experienced and skilled clubs from Italy, Turkey and Portugal. Following on from their pool matches there will be a series of crossover games vs clubs from Slovenia, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Sweden depending on the Saints final placings after the first three games.

Looking ahead to the tournament, Head Coach Nick Fackrell explained that even though the team are heading into games against more experienced teams, they’re prepared and excited:

This is our first year in the championship ever, so it will be a new experience. However, without looking too far ahead, we are delighted to put ourselves in the frame to take part next year after a successful but very close-run campaign in the Welsh Indoor Finals this season. We will face some difficult challenges in this competition; but we’re looking forward to playing against teams that have a significant amount of indoor experience. The squad have invested heavily in preparing for this tournament and are challenging themselves to compete against these more experienced sides. It will be a huge learning experience for us and we also hope that it will benefit our outdoor game on our return. We also play 5 games in the space of 3 days, so we hope that our conditioning which has benefited hugely from the support of our club strength and conditioning coach at Olsen Fitness will serve us well.

A win for the team will see them promoted into the Euro Hockey Indoor Club Trophy. The tournament schedule can be found here.
