Hoci Cymru is delighted to announce that Katie Glynn has joined the organisation as Performance Director.
The ex-New Zealand international brings an exceptional hockey background to our Board, having competed at the highest level before working in coaching roles in both her homeland and the UK.
A famous name in international hockey, Katie made her New Zealand debut in 2009 and won Champions Challenge I Gold the same year. Katie has also featured in two Commonwealth Games and one Olympics Games campaigns for her country, boasting Commonwealth Silver from Delhi in 2010 as well as Bronze from Glasgow four years later.
A stellar playing career naturally stood Katie in good stead to support future generations in the sport, and she has subsequently held an array of coaching roles within hockey.

As well as Head Coach roles with New Zealand’s U18 and U21 Women, she helped the nation’s senior Women qualify for Tokyo 2020 as the side’s Assistant Coach, leading on attacking strategy.
More recently, Katie has been with England and Great Britain Hockey.
As the senior Women’s Assistant Coach, she contributed to GB’s Olympic Bronze in Tokyo 2020 and England’s Commonwealth Gold at Birmingham 2022. During her five years in the role, Katie played a key role in contributing to strategic performance decisions making, driving high-performance cultures that focused on accountability, diversity, and sustained results.
Still with England and GB Hockey, Katie took up a new role earlier this year, now working as a Coach Education Resource Developer, creating accessible digital learning content for coaches at all levels.
Upon her appointment to the Hoci Cymru Board, Katie stated:
“I’m really excited to be joining Hoci Cymru at such a significant time for the sport. The recent historic results are a testament to the fantastic work of the players, coaches, wider performance team, and the whole organisation, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to this journey.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with the performance team and everyone at Hoci Cymru to help build on this momentum, support our athletes, and continue progressing Welsh hockey on the international stage.”

Hoci Cymru CEO, Paul Whapham, commented:
“We are thoroughly delighted to welcome Katie to the organisation. Katie’s name will be a familiar one to hockey players across Wales and England, and we are excited by her outstanding experience in the sport and for her to support the continued progression of our performance teams.
“We are fortunate to have fantastic coaches leading Wales’ senior players to historic results at the moment, providing Katie with a perfect platform to make a significant impact and continue her great work in the sport.”
Katie will begin her role in mid-October.
