Hockey Wales are delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Gage as their new Director of Development and Participation. Joe joins the National Governing Body for hockey in Wales from Ospreys in the Community, one of the largest sports development charities in Wales.
Joe is an experienced, successful, and well-regarded leader who will provide a fresh approach to increasing participation by reaching out to new communities and partners. Joe has been with the Ospreys in the Community for over six years; during this time, he has played a significant role in developing a series of educational initiatives that have not only increase physical activity levels amongst young people but provided teachers with resources to take sport into the classroom.
Joe has also played a significant role in developing women and girls and disability and inclusion programmes. Joe’s experience in the charitable sector will be vital as Hockey Wales plans to launch its own charity in 2024.
Joe Gage said, “I am thrilled to be joining Hockey Wales. It is an incredible opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team, and I look forward to contributing my experience and skills to help push Hockey Wales to new heights.”
In addition to his professional career, Joe has represented Wales at U20s Level in rugby and currently coaches as part of the Ospreys Elite pathway so has a good insight into how to develop young players.
Paul Whapham Chief Executive Officer said, “We were extremely pleased by the quality and volume of candidates for this role, highlighting the enthusiasm to work within Hockey. Joe’s enthusiasm and experience made him the best candidate for the role, and I look forward to introducing Joe to the Hockey family and its partners in the coming weeks.”
Hockey Wales welcome Joe and look forward to him bringing such a wealth of experience on board to the development and participation space.
