Local schools come together at new facility at Rydal Penrhos

ree

Following the successful unveiling of the new Astro Turf at Rydal Penrhos School in September 2025, the facility has been made available for community use.

Recently, the school extended an invitation for Blessed William Davies Primary School to utilize this exceptional new space, which served as an outstanding venue for hosting an Autumn Hockey Festival afternoon.

The collaboration between Rachel Dathan, our Hockey Development Officer for the north, and Jennifer Jones of Blessed William Davies Primary School, enabled a partnership to host a hockey festival for local schools.

The festival was attended by; Ysgol Blessed William Davies, Ysgol San Sior, Ysgol Craig y Don, Ysgol Pen Y Bryn and Rydal Penrhos.

“I liked playing with other children from the other schools.”

– Antonio

“Thank you for this wonderful experience. I enjoyed learning how to play hockey, thank you for teaching us!”

Nataniel

The event was organised to accommodate all ability levels, from those new to the sport learning basic skills to others participating in more competitive matches.

Pupil quotes highlight the positive experience:

“We had a great time learning new skills with Rachel before coming to the festival. It meant that we could take part with the competitive hockey teams.”

– Patrick

“I really enjoyed learning how to play hockey. I would like to take part in another tournament.”

– Poppy

By continuing to build these relationships, we can provide children across local communities with an environment rich in learning and diverse opportunities, allowing them to fully flourish.

“We can’t wait to attend another hockey festival!”

– Year 6 pupils at Blessed William Davies.
