Hoci Cymru senior men launch Crowdfunder to get Wales to the World Cup

The Wales to the World Cup Crowdfunder is officially live, with your support helping Hoci Cymru’s senior men get to this summer’s Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
In 2023, Wales’ senior men made unprecedented history by qualifying for the Hockey World Cup in India, competing against the very best teams in the world and proving that Welsh hockey belongs on the biggest stage.
Now, they’ve done it again and will play on hockey’s biggest stage for just the second time.
“Everyone at Hoci Cymru is so proud of the team and staff,” commented Paul Whapham, Hoci Cymru CEO. “Backing up the achievement from 2023 is something we are, and they should be, incredibly proud of, and it reflects the standards, commitment, and belief that this group has built over a number of years.”
As one of the smaller nations competing internationally, Wales continues to punch well above its weight, earning a place amongst the world’s elite through hard work, resilience, and performances on the pitch.
This level of competition, however, comes at a significant financial cost.
“Representing Wales has always been an incredible privilege and something I am immensely proud of,” stated Dan Kyriakides, “However, as many people may not realise, playing international hockey for Wales comes with significant personal costs, with players contributing financially each year in order to compete.”
We are aiming to raise £40,000 to contribute towards the senior men’s World Cup campaign and give the group the best possible opportunity to perform on the world stage.
This campaign is not about funding a one-off experience. It is about helping Welsh hockey continue to grow, compete, and establish itself at the highest level of the game.
Every contribution will directly support the team’s preparation and tournament campaign as we look to make an impact at the 2026 World Cup.
