Lynne Morgan has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List as a medallist of the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her dedication to playing and volunteering in Hockey.
From representing Wales in Master’s Hockey, President and Vice-President for Middlesex Hockey Association and now President of Ashford Middlesex Hockey Club, our Welsh Hockey superfan, who recently travelled to India to follow our Men in action at the World Cup in January, has been recognised for her involvement within the sport spanning over 5 decades.
On her honour, Morgan said: “I felt absolutely overwhelmed when I got the news and didn’t quite believe it. But when it sank in, I felt very privileged because life in hockey has been great, I want hockey, Ashford Hockey Club, Wales, and GB to be the winner because that is what it’s all about. Thank you to everyone. Claire Brant (Ashford Middlesex Hockey Club), Russell Grant, Ria Burrage-Male (Welsh Hockey) and Sandra Marlow, all nominated me so thank you to them and the hockey family.”
Paul Whapham, Hockey Wales CEO said “Everyone at Hockey Wales was delighted to hear the news. It is absolutely fantastic to see Lynne recognised for her services to hockey. Whether it’s volunteering, playing Master’s hockey or cheering on our international teams, Lynne isn’t far from the pitch. Lynne has been a fantastic role model for the sport, and we wish her well.”
